Q: I have in floor radiant heat, the thermal resistance of the cork is not going to reduce the floor's ability to heat the space?

Cork is an outstanding insulator and can be used under the radiant heat elements - typically on concrete. I have radiant heat floors in the bathrooms. I did not use cork underlayment however because I live in Florida and did not have to concern my self too much with the time to heat a floor. I did talk with the manufactuer (Warm Touch) and they suggested underlayment (like Cork) under radiant heat if you are in climates where it gets cold. It allows the floor to heat quicker and reduce heat losses into the subflooring. I used this product under all my wood floors - it is awesome. Cork is a sustainable product, moisture resistant and bugs do not like it.

Q: I am going to use a 6 mil vapor barrier on a cement floor, do I need to secure that to the floor, then secure the cork to the plastic?

Use duct tape to secure vapor barrier and tape send. Staples not recommended use duct tape to tape seams of cork you can staple on the end you do not have to glue cork to plastic. Then you can either float or glue your floor over the cork. The cork should be in the opposite direction of the floor. So do one long ways and one sideways.

Do not use a regular knife or a utility knife. You’ll have pieces of cork everywhere. I found the best method were scissors. But not regular paper scissors. Get a nice heavy duty set and you can cut thru it quite well with minimal loss or break down
