Poor reception. Bought to replace a stock GPS antenna on CBRS cell and this one performs just as terrible as old one.

An impressive Surface Mount GPS antenna with a 3metre cable and SMA male connectorThe unit is solidly made and has a foam adhesive pad/seal as well as a screw mount on the base so it should attach firmly through car or RV bodies etc and will accept a bit of curvature in the panel.Regarding performance the short answer is very good for the size /price and a 3m cable length.A quick test outdoors in the open saw the expected good strong satellite reception on the American GPS system and also on the Russian GLONASS navigation system that is also found on many of the latest navigation devices.(The GLONASS system is broadcasting at around 1602MHz so it's technically quite some way outside of the manufacturers specified 1575 MHz bandwidth for this antenna - but mine still worked OK there in practice.)I wanted to give it a tougher test so, connected to my battery powered Garmin GPS Map handheld (via an additional 0.5m of adapter cable), I tried it in a really tough test : Inside, on a window sill, facing up and into a 2m wide passageway with another building obstructing the signal from either side and up to 5m higher up. A true 'Urban Canyon'.As the attached photo shows (left pic) the signals were not perfect with GPS in the top row doing best and a still useful second opinion from the bottom (GLONASS) row The location was fairly accurate but altitude (as expected) also a little out (Remember : This is a really tough test for any GPS) .Also, more challenging, was that no metal mounting plate /ground plane was used in these tests as many boats /caravans cannot easily provide one although, if there, it can help improve the signal a bit.The right hand pic is in a 'slightly easier' window sill situation with only a large tree in the way of a building-free southern view this time. This saw plenty of satellites from each system locked and delivered a 10ft positional accuracy prediction and perfect altitude figure. Switching to map view it all looked spot-on.Both of these tests are challenging so the good results are very pleasing. I think this will work well even on tree lined canals and roads and in 'city canyons' given a good GPS map unit.Is there a price to pay for this in terms of power consumption? On test my antenna (yours may vary of course) drew 8.9mA at 3.0v rising to 9.5mA at 5V Both comfortably within the <15mA quoted in the specification.Both mA figures are average-to-good for small active single band GPS antennas and neither is a problem even for portable /battery powered GPS devices like my test unitReviewed at £13.05 this is a really good value for money compared other GPS antennas I've tested in the same price range..

Maswell GPS Active Antenna Cylinder Screw Mount (Connector Type: SMA)This is the second of two active GPS antennas I recently got. This one has a screw mount fitting on the bottom and the antenna section is round and flat, with a diameter of 47.5mm and a height of 16.1mm and a total height of 25.4mm including the protruding screw mount. On the bottom side is a sponge like sticky pad, so as well as using the locknut on the underside it can be stuck to a surface.There is a 3m length of RG-174/U coax, 2.8mm diameter, with a male SMA connector on the end. There are high losses over this coax at these frequencies, but the antenna is active and contains an amplifier to boost the signal which more than compensates for this.In use, I tested on various GPS receivers and all of them gave good results with around 11 satellites being received at any one time and good strong signals between 20dB and 43dB.
