Easy Spanish Phrase Book NEW EDITION: Over 700 Phrases for Everyday Use (Dover Language Guides Spanish)

I was specifically looking for a small, lightweight phrasebook with basic expressions that I could carry in my handbag and take everywhere with me. Teachers also increasingly recommend learning full sentences, so this is the perfect book to start with.

Used this in costa rica 3 times! Fun and easy great to have was something to read on the plane too!

The author is obviously highly qualified to write such a guide and I enjoy looking up phrases I haven’t used before. However, if someone has never had classroom Spanish classes, where the instructor or a recorded Spanish speaker pronounced the phrase at a “teaching” speed, the “syllabic” phonetic pronunciation guide writing is a little misleading at times. Sometimes, the emphásis is on the wrong sýllable. 😳. But, once a reader understands the flowing nature of the phrases, the phonetics are a little easier to work with. I bought my son a copy. He has spoken “Spanglish” on the job, but never had a Spanish class, and he enjoys the book.

I would say it’s beginner friendly

It’s what it says it is…a lot of phrases to memorize. Como está, buenos días…etc. wasn’t really helpful to me.Madrigal’s Magic Key to Spanish is THE book.

This book is excellent!! Simple sentences & phrases. Focus on travel & simple conversation. Small enough to put in a medium size purse & read in line at post office or Costco. Nice phonetic explanation with each sentence or phrase. Does not explain rules of the language in much detail like past tense or future or present perfect. Just a short primer at end of book.

I am learning spanish better from this book than with a teacher
