If you only buy one science fiction book a year...
...this should be it. I've been following this series since the 1980s and believe this book is the best way to keep up with the current state of science fiction. The stories run the range from soft to ultra-hard, and reasonably short up to novella length. There's usually a couple stories I can't get into, but given the size of the volume that's never a problem; I just skip to the next one. The yearly wrap-up at the beginning covers the range of science media from books and magazines, film and television, and personalities and publishing. It's well worth your time.

How Does He Do It Year After Year?
Every year I'm amazed that Gardner Dozois was able to do it again! Produce a fabulous anthology of high quality science fiction stories. Beyond the stories, his introductions and reviews of the field give the impression that NOTHING escapes his omnivorous literary intake. While a few stories disappoint from time to time, others have left me quite rattled and unable to sleep by their unexpected turns and ingenious permutations.Overall, he has a very fine eye for quality writing style apart from sci fi bona fides. Typically it takes me almost a full year to read the entire anthology and what an annual joy it is! Let's pray that Mr. Dozois' health and eyesight remain excellent for many years to come.

Great as always
Dozois is an anthology god. Great choices as always. My only nitpick is that I truly wish that the year would be included in the title(s) of the anthology (-ies). Like this: "The Year's (2017) Best Science Fiction." I have about twenty of these anthologies and it would be great to have a secondary means of identifying the year covered besides just "The Year's Best". Gawd, I can't tell you how much that frustrates the pickle juice out of me to have to guess which year is being showcased in which anthology. This is also a hint to any other anthology editors out there as well!

Unusually consistent collection
Usually I end up skipping about 1/4 of the stories in these anthologies. But in this particular year's edition, the stories are uniformly excellent. Highly recommended.

Third Fourth Years Best Science Fiction for Gardner Dozois
I have been faithfully following Gardner Dozois' years best science fiction for over 30 years. It is clearly the best annual anthology. This years was no exception. Some absolutely wonderful stories from some of the top writers in the field. I always use this anthology to keep up with some of best writers out there, but also to discover new talents. Then I can go and follow the individual authors. A must read for science fiction fans!

The best anthology
the usual brilliance you can expect from Mr. Dozoisa and his long standing anthology. Highly recommended, highly enjoyable, a really good look at whatt's out there and you should read. Why not 5 stars? personally, I am tired of the author's preference for the alternate universe where Mayan and Chinese stars battle it out there, with a mix of Viet cooking...that universe has grown stale. Other than that...thumbs up !!

No UK version this Year.
Not really a review at the moment but a point of interest for anyone who usually orders the UK version of this annually.Normally at this time of the year I would be looking for "The Mammoth Book of Best SF ........" to be released from Robinson /Little Brown. For anyone who has collected and read the entire series as I have, we are now up to 29,and the 2016 review would have been number 30. I couldn't find a UK publishing date and contacted RLB, only to be sadly told they wouldn't be releasing any further volumes in the series and that I should ask the US publishers ,StGriffin, if there was going to be a UK release. Alas in reply to my email I was told at this moment in time the answer was no, and I would be better off getting the American print.Content wise I know there is no difference but its disappointing to see the UK version series end. I like to see all the covers lined up on my bookshelves. I mourned the death of Ellen Datlows "Years Best Fantasy and Horror", but at least we can still get this, all be it with a different number. I'm ordering this presently and will review it over the next few weeks.Well, I've finished it and its the usual strong mix of stories, though like in my previous volumes review, there are certain elements that are becoming a little repetitive, ie themes on the impact of global warming, AI's influencing peoples lives, terraforming experiments, on going short story sagas by the same authors. None of them are particularly poor, just a bit more of the same . A couple of stories really did hit a nerve though, "Prodigal" by Gord Sellar and "They All have One Breath" by Karl Bunker. Worth the price of the book alone I felt.

Great so far!
About half way through, and every story has been superb so far. Certainly recommend this. Eclectic, but all good.

Get this now.
As usual, if you only buy one anthology of short SciFi this is the one to get. Full of high quality stories with only a small number I did not like. I did not notice any typo's, format defects, etc in my Kindle edition.
