Getting Started in Currency Trading: Winning in Today's Market

Great coverage of currency markets and what's involved in trading them
I gave this 5 stars not because it's a great book on trading, or even learning currency trading. The 5 stars is because Archer has presented just about all aspects of what currency trading is about, including some of the major forms of analysis and strategies, in a very logical and informative manner.Treat this more like a dictionary with terrific discussion than a how to book and you'll be fine. Great for anyone totally new to all of this, and not a bad reference beyond that.I purchased this updated version after having bought his 2005 edition many, many years ago. I've been recommending it to many friends over the years since my own interest in currency trading began in 2007. In fact, two folks who I recommended it to in the last couple of months received this updated version. When I went to discuss it with them, I was out of sync with my old copy! Time to update! And if you read this before: time to update as well.

Shallow, Missing Website, Bogus Index...
If you're looking for a beginner's book on Forex trading, you should either pick up a copy of something like "Currency Trading for Dummies," or (if you're a self-starter), take a look at the wide range of free information available on the web. This book, while it gives the appearance of completeness, is actually kind of a hot mess. It covers a lot of territory without saying too much that's useful in practice. The author keeps repeating his praises for Charles Goodman (his mentor), and telling war stories about how he started trading commodities back in the 1970s.Also, the book makes frequent references to the "companion website," where you will (supposedly) find a number of PowerPoint presentations and useful worksheets. The problem is, the website no longer exists. (If you go there, you'll find that the name is owned by a domain squatting company.) Web searches don't reveal any other location for the material referenced in the book. Finally, the book's index is screwed up. The page numbers listed in the index don't actually correspond to the referenced topic. Very sloppy -- especially in an era of word processing software and automatic indexing.

Good Starting Point
For people contemplating on venturing out in the currency markets as a means to extra income or to gradually (over years) replace the 9 to 5 income, this is a good starting point. I loved reading this book, for I was curious to know if at all there is a chance for us novices in the fast paced currency markets. I'm still in the first few chapters but I feel this book will tell me before I invest a single dollar, if this is for me. If it is not, I will stay away from forex. Simple. There is a certain honesty and objectivity in the author's approach that has appealed me in this book. He surely addresses the slow and the curious, rather than the fast and the furious.

It is my best go to book for information. Trader Tom

Very good for beginners
It contains what I expected. It starts by giving all the essential FX info on the markets, the pairs, the platforms etc. It is an introductory how-to book and covers the subject matter quite well. Could use simpler language at certain points and go into greater depth with the use of platforms. Also it is thin on trading strategies save for the one used by the author. It lays the groundwork for further more advanced and specialised reading.

Two Stars
Nothing special but expensive, perhaps due to small printing quantity.
