Kids can cook!
The author has a list of simple things that kids can do to make cooking easier - such as washing their hands, getting out materials and preparing ingredients that will make it easier to cook. The terms chop and dice are explained, along with how to mince garlic and peel fruits and vegetables. The terms mix, stir fry, bake and boil are also explained and there are pictures that help to show what the terms mean. The measuring terms liquid and dry measure are explained, along with safety measures for using knives, stovetops and ovens. An interesting footnote - there are directions on how to read an ingredient list on a can, emphasizing that sugar is also corn syrup, and that there is less sugar in a product if sugar is at the end of a list of ingredients and more sugar if it is at the beginning.Bean and cheese quesadillas are the first recipe with only a few ingredients, they are fried in a pan and they are easy for a child to make.A salad using feta cheese, olives, cucumber, lettuce and tomatoes is next, it even includes a dressing recipe with olive oil, lemon juice, oregano and salt that is easy to make. This recipe is a little harder than the quesadilla recipe.Kids can cook veggies 3 ways - by roasting them, boiling them and microwaving, the roasting is the most involved as it requires chopping and using the oven while the microwaving is the easiest. There is a recipe for tabbouleh that requires measuring, dicing and straining and an easy recipe for pita chips to go along with it.There are some fun pasta recipes that may require adult assistance, and a fun pizza recipe that requires making homemade pizza dough and measuring toppings and cheese.Your child will enjoy making chicken nuggets and shakshuka for dinner with adult supervision !Enjoy!

I really wanted to love this book...
I love the publisher. Having read (and owned) many a Storey book, I was looking forward to reading this. I'd planned on buying a copy for my grandson. However, the first few pages gave me serious doubts. In the knife skills section, it shows the child cutting with fingers outstretched toward the knife. No. Just no. Proper cutting skills should show the fingers bent, knuckles facing the knife. This makes cut fingers far more difficult and unlikely to occur. Unfortunately, the fingers-toward-the-knife are shown again and again. Bad practices. The Conversion Chart has one inaccuracy that a child may not notice. It has 1 teaspoon equaling 5 grams, a reasonable conversion, but then it has 1 Tablespoon equaling 45 grams--a child may not know that 1 Tablespoon is equivalent to 3 teaspoons, so the conversion would be 15 grams, not 45. The conversion for 1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) is given as 60 grams, which is reasonable. The recipes are okay for the most part. The pictures are lovely, and the bugeting and nutritional value information is very good. I just wish they would fix the above issues

A good book
I enjoyed this cook book that kid's friendly. It had recipes that kids might enjoy to make and eat. The recipes were easy to follow and they also had illustrations that show how the recipes look at the end.I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.

What a perfect cookbook for 8-12 year olds, or even younger with some assistance.
I found it to be well planned out ~ from the lessons, to the safety tips, to the well written recipes with pictures, to the money saving tips.Lessons ~ some kids might not understand all the leg work that goes into preparing their meals each day. The author gives excellent insight by including kitchen rules, prep work and various cooking skills.Safety ~ this was an important lesson, especially since this book might be used by kids that are just learning or for those that need to brush up on their skills.Recipes ~ with 25 options, there was a nice variety for any member in your household, even picky eaters. The recipes were easy to follow and the pictures were a big help to ensure every step was completed properly.Money saving tips ~ as someone who is thrifty and has an accounting degree, I really liked this lesson. It never hurts to find ways to save money in this day and age and it’s never too early to learn about them.My daughter made us Popcorn Chicken for dinner last night all by herself. She found the recipe easy to follow and it tasted excellent! The texture of the chicken was perfect!I definitely recommend this well written cookbook for aspiring young chefs to learn the ins and outs of what it takes to prepare a meal for a family.*Thanks to Storey Publishing, Deanna F Cook and NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*

Repeat of other book
It's a nice book but I think it should be clearly stated from the author that it's mostly a duplicate of the world wide cooking one that she made. And as other have said my daughter who is not picky also told me she doesn't want to make about half of these recipes. so they aren't as kid friendly as they're being advertised.

Great kids cookbook
Kids Cook Dinner23 Healthy, Budget-Friendly Meals from the Best-Selling Cooking Class Seriesby Deanna F. CookI received a digital arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a fantastic book. I am a mom to 5 and 8 year old boys who are constantly eating. I’m the daughter of a home economics teacher and in a previous career taught inner city tweens how to make nutritious snacks.I love how everything is broken down into steps. The steps are illustrated with real kids doing the tasks. Nutrition, safety and budget are all taken into account. The recipes start out relatively easy and familiar and then expand to grow with the child as they grow in confidence and in an expanding dietary palate. Common knowledge is to involve kids in the cooking to get them more interested in eating the food. This is a fun and interactive way for them to build real world life skills and to want to try new foods through the challenge of continuing their adventures in cooking. This would make an exceptional book for home schoolers, libraries and anyone hoping to branch out from chicken nuggets and hotdogs but unsure how.5/5

Almost no usable recipe
I wanted to love this book as the one on baking. But it this book simply cannot be compared to the other one. The recipes are all using processed food and I was not able to convince my child to eat any of the recipes. Quite disappointed. We have lots of fun in the kitchen with the Baking book, but this one will go to garbage.
