Seems to perform as intended
I bought this case for my HTC One phone because my last phone died after being dropped. At least, I assume that's what happened, because the first sign of trouble came when I reached into my pocket for it and came away with broken gorilla glass in my fingers. Who knows what really happened to it? So I wanted to make sure I protected this new phone as well as possible, thus I went for what I perceived to be the big name in phone protection: OtterBox.I'm pleased with what I got. The case is somewhat bulky but it seems durably made. I'm not the sort who will drop the phone on the floor to test how good the protection of the case is, but I think the phone would probably survive a 1 meter drop just fine. The case does not offer much water protection for the phone, if any. If the phone goes into the lake or the toilet, this case may slow down the inevitable, but I would guess you'd be replacing the phone unless you got extremely lucky. If the phone is sitting on the table in a restaurant and someone spills a drink across the surface the phone is on, it will probably offer fair protection; at least somewhat better than the phone itself offers.I do not like the belt clip; fortunately you don't have to use it. The phone itself is on the large side for use in a belt holster and it's uncomfortable for me with the added bulk of the case around the phone. The clip appears sturdy and well made however. Some people have complained in reviews that the protective screen cover allows dust in between the screen and the cover. This is true to a certain extent, and if you're a neat freak this will likely bother you. I am not a neat freak, and a little dust does not deter me from enjoying the phone. I routinely take the phone out of the case every so often so I can wash my fingerprints off, and the dust gets cleared away when I do this. I haven't felt the need to do so more often than about once per month. I suppose, as others have posted, that you could remove the screen protector that comes with the case and install one of the stick-on protectors available elsewhere. Personally? I'm fine with what I've got, thanks.I am mechanically inclined, so the act of putting the phone into the case and taking it out is not difficult for me. Some people have a problem with this; there are good YouTube videos out there showing how to perform the process. Let me put it to you this way, once the phone is in there, it will take a very deliberate set of actions to get it back out. The case is not going to just fall off.If by some chance I get another HTC One phone, I will buy another OtterBox Defender case for it.

Get it. Its everything you want.
This thing has like a stage 1, and stage 2 level. I can't be more pleased. It exceeds my expectations.Stage 1, well, it's a slim plastic case that also has a tough screen cover, so ..it's ok and light and slim.Nice for regular protection. The backside curves nice like the HTC.Stage 2, - ...It also comes with a rubberized case, should you like to take it rock climbing.Stage 3, - It has a handy belt clip and hard shell case. If that clip comes undone from your parachute and hits a rock, - the darn thing will still probably keep your HTC in good shape.I'm an Eagle Scout, Ranger Instructor, Certified Diver, and a Private Pilot, and I guess I'm tough on things. But this has to be the best 30 bucks I ever spent. No, you can't shoot it, blow it up, or dive to 300 feet with it. Let me put it this way, I had a Samsung3G, and the screen lasted 30-40 hours with me unprotected before the whole screen was gone. I'm rough on stuff. But I'm really impressed with this Otter company. I'm pretty sure that unless I take a hammer to the phone, the Otter thing is gonna keep it protected. I like how they did it in different levels. I can use level one when I wear a suit and put it in my vest pocket, but then, I can put it in it's rubber skin when it needs more.....the dad gum thing is super. It is a bargain at twice the price.- The thing even came in a quality package. These Otter folks care about their stuff. Now if they can only come up with a quality "Otter girl-friend" !! Then they are on to something !!!****FABER

Good case, "dust protector" sucks.
This is my first try with a Defender, I've always had Commuter Otter Boxes before. I bought this because my job is much more rugged than any other place I've worked before (I work in a quarry, you drop your phone it's almost guaranteed it's going to break). The case is doing it's job, I've dropped it a few times already and had no adverse effects. I wish it had a cover on the power button as well, maybe like the clips that cover the earphone jack and charger jack. The power button is TINY and almost flush against the phone, and with the Defender on it's not simple to press it. The clips that hold the plastic casing aren't easy to snap apart when the box needs to be cleaned either. I have to use a pocket knife to lift the edge of the upper snap to get it to release. That doesn't bother me too much thought, it lets me know my phone is secure in the box. However, the built in "dust protector" is crap. At my place of work, dust and dirt are a constant issue. The dust gets under the edges of the "dust protector" and it's a pain to remove the case and clean it out once it begins to annoy me. I have a screen protector installed under the Otter box as well. When I use my phone, the "dust protector" gives it an unpleasant sensation. I can feel when it makes contact with the screen, and it gives off it's own sound effect. It also has a habit of trying to suction to the screen itself, but it's not a pure suction. It's a random suction, like right down the middle of the screen or off on one side. This makes the screen slightly distorted in my opinion and aggravates my eyes. Would I buy it again? Probably. But, only if I could remove the useless "dust protector".

Dissapointing product from OtterBox
I typically sing the praises of the defender series for otterbox cases. I have a 2 year old who loves her dad's tech toys so all of my apple products were quickly wrapped in the defender series cases.I recently purchased an HTC One and OtterBox case. I understand some of the design features (front facing speakers) make the screen protector less "protective" the design is still horrible. The plastic curves upward which takes away from the touch screen experience. Dust immediately enters the case and makes the screen horrible to look at.I've read reviews online and many people are removing the screen protector from the OtterBox and replacing it with a ZAGG Shield...Overall it still protects from accidental drops but the screen protector ruins the case for me
