Columbian Self-Seal Business Envelopes vs. Quality Park: Which is the best security envelope?

Battle of the business envelopes! At last Columbian has some competition for their excellent 24 lb. seal-seal white business envelopes. I have always been willing to pay a little more for the Columbians. Contrary to some reviews, they have always had excellent seal for us, never a problem. They run about .13 each in a box of 100. What I love about them is there is no extra strip of paper over the sealant that you must peel off and then take extra time to throw away.Enter the challenger, Quality Park Redi-Seal. A box of 100 will run you about .10 per envelope. That 30% savings may be of importance to companies or individuals who go through a lot of these. Both brands are designed similarly, and easy to seal with the ready-to-stick no mess (and no lick) adhesive. If you are micro-analyzing, the Columbian runs a little creamier in color. The Quality Park slightly bluer. Without comparing you would never notice. Both have ample security printing inside. The Columbian weights 5.3 grams vs. Quality Park at 5.1. Could that save postage? Probably not as the difference is .01 ounce.

nice envelopes

These envelopes are nice to use, because you don't have to lick them. But Honestly I didn't even notice the self sealing thing when I was considering them, as usual, I just notice the price. So, when I received them and found them to have the self sealing feature, I was quite skeptical. But, I thought that I would give them a try any way, just to see how they worked. I was surprised to see how well they sealed. The glue on them sticks very well, and holds tight. I haven't tried, but I am pretty sure that you could reopen one if necessary, and then reseal it again with just as good a seal as the first time. These are great envelopes at a great price.

SELF SEAL ARE A STEAL!

An envelope with two flaps? I have never used envelopes designed quite like this but I was pretty impressed by not only the design but especially the performance; only took a sec to figure out these smart envelopes. There are two flaps. To seal, the lower flap flips up and the upper flap flips down (as with a regular envelope) . Oddly though the "adhesive" on the flaps don't feel all that sticky so initially I was skeptical. But sure enough, I closed the envelope, give it a nice tight pinch and swipe, and sure enough...it stayed sealed! I even waited a time for fear it might lose its "stick" and not retain its closure but NOPE! It stayed shut, nice and tight! And for the price, they can't be beat!

Excellent Secutity Self-Seal Envelopes/No WIndow

Excellent Secutity Self-Seal Envelopes/No WIndow. I was becoming disappointed with Staples brand due to the fact that they really didn't seal too well. I happened to see these while searching for something else and figured I would give it a try. I removed them from the box when I received them and put them in the spot where his envelopes normally are and he knew as soon as he went to write on one of the envelopes that it wasn't a Staples envelope. It has a much nicer feel and writing on it is nice and fluid. I didn't comment but when he went to seal and said that without a doubt he knew it wasn't a Staple envelope and was so glad I purchased these. The price for 100, the quality of the paper of the envelope and the seal all combined makes for a winner of an envelope. Clearly a fine product.

Utterly insecure self-seal and tint envelope

Heavy weight junk. The so-called self sealing double flap has almost no adhesive quality. I must use clear tape to close the double flap, which is so obviously poorly sealed that it invites opening. What junk . Even with repeated pressure on the double flap it is easily and obviously separable. There is no chance that I will ever buy this brand, not after applying clear tape to the last 60 or so letters. The security tint is a joke; I easily read a printed card through the "insecurity" tint. What a drag.

Cumbersome!!!

I was excited to try these envelopes from the reviews I read and the fact that I wasn't impressed with Mead Press-It Seal-it #10 20 lb. security envelopes. With the Mead envelopes they were thin and flimsy, but were a cinch to secure. Now onto the Columbian #10 24 lb. self-seal security envelope. The first thing I did was to test the sealing and security of these envelopes. So I lifted the lower flap and closed the top portion on top of the bottom flap. I pressed the seal with my finger and then lifted the top flap to open the envelope to see how secure the flap was. To my surprise I was able to do this without damaging the envelope. I destroyed several envelopes and they all did this. I thought maybe it was a bad batch. Then I rubbed my thumb nail along the length of the envelope seal several times in frustration. When I tried to open the envelope seal, I couldn't without completely destroying the envelope. So in a nut shell you can buy Mead and have a completely easy to seal with a see through flimsy envelope or buy Columbian and have a good solid envelope that to have to smash the seal with a solid object for a completely secure seal. I wish these two companies could get together to create the perfect solid and secure envelope. I give this product 2 stars because of the process you have to go through to fully secure the envelope.

Quality envelope! Self-seal adhesive could use some improvement!

Over the years, it has become evident that not every #10 envelope is of equal quality and / or seals securely. While manufacturing a good #10 should not be rocket science nowadays, we (my wife and I) have become a bit more selective when buying the most commonly used envelope. All the more given the identity theft problems proliferating these days (since we regularly mail out checks.) These Columbian CO284, seal-sealing envelopes, meet most of our expectations. The eventual contents of the envelope will be properly shielded (from view) by fairly dense paper. The self-seal may be the main weakness in that the adhesion is decent, but not perfect. We customarily end up securing the envelope with Scotch tape.
